Their story
Flight Officer Robert J. Marsh served as co-pilot aboard a B-17F of the 533rd Bomber Squadron, 381st Bomber Group, on a mission over Belgium on June 22, 1943, when the aircraft was hit by German anti-aircraft fire, lost a wing, and crashed into the waters of the Oosterschelde (Eastern Scheldt) near Krabbendijke. His remains were never recovered and he was declared missing in action. Due to an administrative error his name was omitted from the memorial for decades, and was finally engraved on the Walls of the Missing at Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery on February 20, 2025, 82 years after his death.
