Their story
Second Lieutenant James Gordon Dennis served as co-pilot of the B-17 "Big Stoop" (42-31941) with the 350th Bombardment Squadron, 100th Bomb Group, and was shot down by Luftwaffe fighters near Wusterhausen during a bombing mission to Berlin on 24 May 1944. After parachuting safely and being taken prisoner, he was shot dead in the street near Segeletz by Nazi propaganda official Alfred-Ingemar Berndt, over the protests of his two guards. He was initially buried at Friedhof Segeletz and his remains were later interred at Ardennes American Cemetery.
