Their story
Serving with Company F, 145th Infantry Regiment, 37th Division, A.E.F., Di Giacomo was one of four men who held a small advanced post against a raid by approximately 80 enemy soldiers east of Baccarat, France, on August 15, 1918, engaging in hand-to-hand combat with grenades and his rifle to drive off the attackers; two of the four defenders were killed. He was later killed in action on November 4, 1918, and received the Distinguished Service Cross posthumously.
